adherents.com = Captain Canuck (Tom Evans) is a popular Canadian super-hero. He is in many ways a Canadian counterpart to Captain America. Captain Canuck is the creation of Richard Comely, a devout Mormon (Church of the Latter-Day Saints).

Comely portrayed Captain Canuck as a prayerful man and a devout Christian. A number of hints throughout Comely's stories indicate that the author regarded the character as a Latter-day Saint, like himself. As far as we know, Captain Canuck was never overtly identified by name as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

CAPTAIN CANUCK Pre #1 Promo Flyer Original 1975 JAMMIES DUMMY Cover COMELY VF+

CAPTAIN CANUCK (Comely Comix Pub; Original Canadian Color Comic Series; 7/1975 thru 3-4/1981);

Advanced PROMOTIONAL Promo Flyer for #1 from Late Winter to early Spring 1-5/1975 = Well BEFORE Publication of the Actual #1 (July/1975) PROMOTIONAL Handout Flyer Cover sample; (only the Proposed COVER)

The FIRST official pre-production PROMOTIONAL item made about Captain Canuck;

This is the Original color Promo handout cover for #1 sent to prospective advertisers and Distributors, prior to #1 being published;

This was actually intended to be actual cover for #1.

In the last few weeks before publication, I recall discussing with Richard Comely in person, that a humour cover referring to "JAMMIES" and calling Captain Canuck  "Canada's superhero DUMMY" was probably not the best idea after all.

Thus, as I (Doug Sulipa) strongly suggested to Richard Comely, he instead used the classic new Canadian PATRIOTIC FLAG cover.

Quantity printed is unknown but my estimate is somewhere between 500 to 1000 copies, with many surely many of these fragile items destroyed over the last 43 years.

REVERSE Side has illustrated Advertisements for (1) CAPTAIN CANUCK and (2) Jason Corey the CATMAN;

Re-Creation of COVER ART from the Original Captain Canuck #1 (1975 by Richard Comely) on a Rectangular COMIC BOOK-SHAPED SILVER COIN;

This is Captain Canuck’s FIRST appearance on a COIN (Captain Canuck previously appeared on a Canadian STAMP);

The COIN and the packaging feature the ART of Creator RICRAD COMELY;

JULY 1, 1975: A CANADIAN HERO IS BORN!

This Collectible COIN is a unique addition to any Canadian History or Pop culture, or Comic Super-Hero Themed collection.

INCLUDES SERIALIZED CERTIFICATE: The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its Collectible COINS.

Design:

Utilizing the coin’s rectangular shape, the reverse mimics the appearance of a comic book — specifically the cover of Captain Canuck No. 1 (July 1975). Key elements from the original cover art by Richard Comely are faithfully replicated by combining precision engraving, various frostings and a selective colour application. The focus is primarily on Captain Canuck, who strikes a defiant pose as he stands on rugged terrain, while the yellow sun hangs low in the northern sky. His maple leaf suit is based on the real-life colours of the large Canadian flag engraved behind him, which further emphasizes the character’s Canadian roots. The reverse includes the engraved word “CANADA” above a corner box element bearing the face value “20 DOLLARS”; “CAPTAIN CANUCK” and “CAPITAINE CANUCK” are engraved on either side of the hero, while the year “2018” is engraved on the land mass below. A laser-engraved maple leaf pattern fills the obverse, which features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Packaging:

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a graphic beauty box.

Specifications : (Mintage = 3,500); (Composition = 99.99% pure silver); (Finish = proof) [Weight (g) = 31.56]; [Diameter (mm) 49.80 x 28.60]; (Edge = plain) (Certificate =     serialized) (Face value = 20 dollars);  [Artist = Richard Comely (reverse) , Susanna Blunt (obverse)]
