------------------------------------------------------------------------
ATLAS-SEABOARD Based Comic MOVIES are coming to the Big Screen, and will have TV SERIES in the Works, from Paramount Pictures & the Martin Goodman estate;
(Martin Goodman had launched Timely Publications in 1939, became Atlas Comics in the 1950s before evolving into MARVEL Comics)
SP Media Group (SPMG) has entered into an agreement to acquire a majority interest in the Atlas Comics library, through its owner Nemesis Group Inc.
Scoop Notes; Headed by Steven Paul (Ghost in the Shell), SPMG has signed a co-production and co-financing first look deal with Paramount Pictures to develop, produce and distribute superhero films based on the comic books. The company has also signed a deal with Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend) and his Weed Road Pictures to oversee a writers’ room in connection with developing out the universe of the characters from the Atlas comic book library (12/1974-10/1975); Atlas employed such talent as Archie Goodwin, Steve Ditko, Russ Heath, John Severin, Alex Toth, Wally Wood, Walter Simonson, Howard Chaykin, Larry Hama, and Rich Buckler, among others, alongside editors Jeff Rovin and Larry Lieber. The company’s output covered a wide variety of genres from standard superheroes to westerns, barbarians, war stories, teen hijinks, science fiction, superheroes, sci-fi, fantasy, supernatural, horror, creatures, vampires, cops, cowboys, soldiers. The broad range of the material should offer Paramount and SPMG a pool of springboards for new media properties. “Intellectual property of this kind is hard to come by in this day and age, and we are excited to be working with Steven Paul and SP Media Group to bring the iconic Atlas comic book library to the big screen,” Paramount Pictures COO Andrew Gumpert said. “Production on the first project is anticipated to commence during the second quarter of 2020 with a release expected to take place in 2021. The companies intend to produce and release at least one superhero project each year thereafter,” they said in the release.

DEVILINA (Atlas Seaboard Pub; 1-5/1975; B&W Comics Magazine; THEME is Exotic Tales of "FEMALE-Filled Fantasy" Magazine; NO comics code)
Atlas Comics Sets ‘DEVILINA Project At Paramount; ** Deadline EXCLUSIVE:
** Steven Paul’s Atlas Comics is developing a live-action version of DEVILINA for Paramount Pictures. Black List writer Rebecca Webb is penning the script. Paul is producing, alongside Scott Karol, President of SP Media Group, and Jason Goodman – grandson of Marvel founder Martin Goodman – are executive producing. Conor O’Farrell, director of development at SP Media Group, is working on the project.
** Created by Atlas Comics Editor-In-Chief Jeff Rovin, DEVILINA follows a sheltered young woman who journeys to New York in search of her past, only to discover she is the sister of Satan, and her twin brother has been manipulating her while a detective investigates a series of murders linked to her. Webb’s original revenge-comedy Divorce Party debuted at #3 on the Black List in 2021 with Cate Blanchett’s Dirty Films producing.
** First published in 1975, the DEVILINA comic unveiled a host of characters that would ultimately shape the interconnected Atlas universe, including compelling figures like Lomax, Grim Ghost, and Phoenix. These characters are integral to Atlas’s vast library, which features over 100 comics spanning a rich tapestry of genres, from sci-fi and fantasy to action, supernatural, and horror.
** SP Media has had a co-financing and production deal at Paramount Pictures and DEVILINA is the first project being developed under that deal with early development that began last year.
** “From the beginning, Atlas Comics’ expansive library of characters and stories was crafted as an interconnected universe. DEVILINA serves as the introduction, and we are dedicated to honoring this foundational vision of Atlas, ensuring that audiences can fully immerse themselves in these dynamic characters and narratives,” says Paul.
** “Dating back to the golden age of comics, Atlas has been home to some of the greatest comic book creators of all time. There are so many characters to love and so many stories to be told,” said Jon Gonda, EVP, Production, Paramount Pictures’ Motion Picture Group. ** Paul has a longstanding history with Marvel, having collaborated early on with Avi Arad and Kevin Feige. He developed and produced Ghost Rider and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, both starring Nicolas Cage. Paul facilitated international sales through his company and financed the films with presales and a deal with Sony Pictures.
